E is for EGG

Spelling Time!!!Another week...another vowel! This week we are focusing on the short e vowel. Students were busy this morning making hens and nests full of short e spelling word eggs! We will also be playing some of our favorite spelling games like "Sparkle" and "Slap It" later this week.

Sentence Buddies

Do you know how to write a sentence??? WE DO!!! Check out our sentence buddies. We even learned a fun chant to remind us about capital letter and punctuation.

Learning Is Yummy

We read Peanut Butter and Cupcake! by Terry Border and completed a very yummy "How To...." activity today involving PB&J. Students illustrated and wrote about the steps you need to follow in order to make a PB&J sandwich. Students used the key words FIRST, NEXT, THEN, and LAST to retell the steps to make a PB&J. During this activity, our tummies were growling and I think we were all ready for lunch.

O for Octopus

Last week in phonics and spelling we focused on the short o vowel. Each student made a cute octopus with their spelling words written on the ink clouds and we also did a short o rhyming word sort.

Word Work

Last week we were busy working with short a words and this week we  have moved on to short i words. We are always busy doing fun word activities each day in the classroom but here is a sneak peak at a couple recent activities that my kiddos had fun doing.

Students went on a short a word hunt around the classroom and then we tallied them up!

Students wrote their short i words on fish and then colored them. They also designed a fish bowl for their fish to swim in. They turned out dooo cute!

My 5 Senses

Check out our self portraits! Students used labels to identify all 5 of their senses. We also learned a fun little song to help us remember all FIVE!!!

Solar Eclipse

Even though we didn't get a chance to go outside and see the eclipse today we were still very excited! We read a book titled "Someone Is Eating The Sun" (so cute). We did our very own eclipse simulation in the classroom with a flashlight(sun), golf ball(moon), and blow up 🌏. Students made an eclipse craft and we ate a themed snack including "Sun" chips and Oreos that we turned into eclipse models. What a neat experience for us to enjoy together today.

School Rules: No David!!

On Friday, we read "David Goes To School" and discussed what makes a good student. My first graders did a great job sorting good choices and bad choices and also made their very own David craft highlighting the rules we should follow at school. We had a fantastic day and I'm really enjoying getting to know my new kiddos this year.

Back to School

What a great first day with my brand new first graders!!!! We sure were busy and had lots of fun today. We made special Jitter Juice to get rid of those first day nerves, practiced using our marshmallow toes when walking in the hallway, and made cute first day hats! It's going to be a great year and I'm really excited to get to know my students and watch them learn and grow
