Thanks Evie!!!!!

Our classroom elf brought us yummy Christmas cookies this morning.  I guess she got a little hungry because she decided to eat one of them.  My goodness, she made a mess=) The class really enjoyed their tasty treat this morning while working on their NOUN Christmas trees.

Santa Needs A Vacation!

I definitely have some artist in my classroom.  We did a step by step Santa portrait and they did AWESOME!!!!  To go with our Santa portraits, students wrote a letter to Santa persuading him to go on vacation.  Of course, a lot of students thought he should travel some place warm and go swimming!!!  I wish we could all go some place warm and do a little swimming this winter!

Don't Worry Santa..... We Have Your Back!!!!

If Santa gets stuck in any chimneys this Christmas, my first graders have some great ideas to help get him out.  As a class, we brainstormed many different ways to help free Santa from the chimney.  Here are a few of the clever ideas that my students came up with.......

If Santa was stuck in my chimney, I would.......
- tell him to eat less cookies and milk.
- rub butter on the sides of the chimney so Santa can slide out.
- use a rake to help push him out.
- push him out with my mom and dad.
- call 911.

Needs and Wants

In Social Studies we have been discussing the differences between things we NEED and things we WANT.  It is the perfect time of year to be learning about NEEDS vs WANTS because around Christmas time it's a whole lot of WANT, WANT, WANT!  As a class, my students sorted pictures into NEED and WANT categories and then we talked about how our needs help us survive.  There are many things we can live without.  Our hallway display includes 2 of Santa's gift bags.  Students brought in pictures to help fill the bags with things we NEED and of course all those toys that they WANT for Christmas this year.

Evie The Elf

We have a little visitor from the North Pole in our classroom this week.  Her name is Evie.  She is keeping an eye on my students and reporting back to Santa each night.  She likes to hide up high so she can watch the class learn.  My students really enjoy looking for her when they get to school each morning.

Today she is just "HANGING" around.  LOL

Pizza a Bowling

What a great day!!!!  First grade headed to Geneseo, IL for our field trip to Happy Joe's and Lee's Lanes.  Each student got the opportunity to make their very own Lil Joe's pizza and practice their bowling skills.  The pizzas were very tasty and quite a few students had strikes and spares while bowling.  We ended the day with yummy Happy Joe's ice cream. A big thank you to the parents that were able to join us today and help out.

To prepare for he big day...... students wrote about how to make a pizza and we brainstormed adjectives that described pizza.

Habitats

My first graders have been very busy learning facts about 6 different types of habitats.  They worked together in small groups to draw the habitat that their animals live in.  We discussed that the rain forest has lots of trees and it rains a lot.  Students also learned that the desert is a very hot habitat with little to no rain.  Two habitats that we can find close by are the pond and forest habitats.  We also talked about the ocean habitat and grassland habitat. Their posters turned out great and they worked so well as a team!

Happy Veterans Day!!!!!
