“Roll A Question” was a hit with my first graders. They did and great job and had fun as they practiced writing questions using the 5 W’s and HOW.

Main Idea and Details

Two of my reading groups read non-fiction leveled readers and identified the main idea and details in the text. They did a fantastic job and I am so impressed with their independent work.

A big shout out to Melody and her family for sponsoring our February Scholastic book. Everyone went home with a copy of Narwhal and The Best Book Ever!

President’s Day

I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend and took a moment yesterday to remember all of the important leaders of our country. Last week the class discussed 2 very important past presidents. After reading a couple non-fiction books and watching a Discovery Ed video, students made Washington and Lincoln stick puppets and and sorted important facts about each president.

Hugs or Kisses???

What’s your favorite? The class graphed their favorite valentine treat and then used the leftover wrappers to create works of art! The creativity in our classroom this morning was over the top! I love seeing what my students come up with each year. We also played a little Left-Right-Center and Derek was our big winner!

Happy Valentine’s Day

We were feeling the love in first grade. The kids’ valentine boxes were so creative and fun. They played minute to win it games, made a cute heart craft, and enjoyed yummy valentine and birthday treats this afternoon.

Snow Much Fun!!!!

A promise is a promise....
It is finally warm enough to get outside and play in ALL of this snow. A couple weeks ago I promised the kids I would bring my snow gear to school and play outside with them. Well, the wait is over and today was the day!

Happy 100th Day!!!

Happy 100th Day!!!
We finally made it. These kiddos are 100 days smarter! It might have been a short day but we had a great time celebrating! Students went on a $$$ hunt to see if they could find all of 100 $1 bills that I hid in the classroom. It was a success but they sure wished all that money was real...lol. We also read books, danced, did some estimating to figure out which jar had 100 items, did 100 exercises, and made super silly 100th day hats! After lunch we played a dice game called Race To 100! Before we knew it, the day was over and we were packing up. I always love seeing my students’ excitement on this special day😊

With an ice storm on the way, this long i spelling activity couldn’t be more appropriate for today! These cute little penguins are standing on big blocks of ICE containing sentences with this week’s long i spelling words. My students did such a great job remembering to use a capital letter in the beginning of the sentence and punctuation at the end! Way to go first grade.

Cause and Effect

Last week we read The Snowy Day and identified the many examples of cause and effect throughout the story. Students also wrote about what they like to do on a snowy day. We sure have had plenty of those this winter.

Thank You!

A big thank you to Turner for sponsoring our January class book from scholastic! We read “Chicken in Mittens” today and everyone got to take their very own copy home!

January Readers!

Check out my super star readers this month. Great job reading your 10 books this month boys and girls. I hope you enjoy those personal pan pizzas from Pizza Hut 🍕

Celebrating MLK

We may all look different on the outside but we are the same on the inside. This was today’s message as we learned about Martin Luther King Jr.. Who would have thought that a couple of eggs could deliver such a powerful message.
