Lilly The Leprechaun Strikes Again!

Happy St. Patrick's Day from first grade!!!  Who on Earth destroyed our classroom last night????  I have a pretty good guess!  Lilly The Leprechaun strikes again!  As students arrived this morning, they were greeted with a huge mess and a special note which sent us on a hunt for gold.  A big thank you to my kiddos for helping clean up the mess.
Lilly threw bee bucks all over the room.

She sprinkled green glitter on our morning work.

She left us this special note that sent us on a gold hunt.

Here are Lilly's tiny green foot prints.

Lilly's says Hi!

She flipped over our chairs!!!!

Here are our rainbow pot of gold crafts.

Learning About Matter

This week in science we learned about MATTER.  My students now know that there are 3 types of matter. All students drew a picture and wrote 2 characteristics of a solid, liquid, and gas.  We conducted a "sink or float" experiment with a variety of solids.  It was fun to see if our predictions were correct.  We discussed that MATTER can change if it is heated up or cooled down.  On Friday, we conducted another experiment which demonstrated that if you cool a liquid down it will change into a solid.  This yummy experiment was a hit.  Check out our lemonade popsicles!!!!!!!

Adjectives

This week we have been learning about adjectives in first grade!  My kiddos now know that adjectives describe nouns and make our writing more interesting to read=)  Our grammar lessons sure made us hungry this week.  We used adjectives to describe popcorn and lollipops.  Students also made adjective selfies! To end the week, my students used their artistic abilities and drew their very own Cat In The Hat!  They used adjectives to describe the Cat In the Hat's nose, hat, whiskers, bowtie, and fur. Check out all of their hard work.

Celebrating Dr. Seuss

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!!! Do you know Dr. Seuss would have been 112 years old this year?  Each day this week, my students dressed up and did a fun activity to go along with the Dr. Seuss book we were reading that day.  It has been a busy and fun week celebrating such a wonderful author.

On Monday we read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and students wore red and blue.

On Tuesday, we read Fox On Socks and students wore silly socks to school.  They even got to take their shoes off in the classroom=)

On Wednesday, we read Wacky Wednesday and students wore mix and match clothes.

On Thursday, we read If I Ran A Zoo and students wore animal print!  It was a pretty WILD day! lol
Check out all of that animal print!

On Friday, we read Green Eggs and Ham and students wore the color green.
