THANK YOU!!!
This week students practiced writing thank you letters. Each student chose a teacher or staff member at the elementary and wrote them a very special thank you card. Each students’ letter included the important parts of a friendly letter.....date, greeting, body, closing, and signature. Students then had the opportunity to deliver their letter in person on Friday. We are so very thankful for the amazing teachers and staff that help us learn each day=)
Pumpkin, Pumpkins, and more Pumpkins
First grade had a great time rotating through pumpkin themed centers this week!!!🎃🎃🎃 Students did a little pumpkin investigation with a sink or float activity, measuring the height of a pumpkin in cubes, counting ribs, and guessing how many links it took to get all the way around the pumpkin. Each student also made cute pumpkin bracelets, engage in a STEM learning activity with pumpkin candies and toothpicks, and sequenced the steps to carve a pumpkin. We have been busy but more importantly having fun while we learn=)

To grow.... or NOT to grow?????
Well, it’s been a couple off weeks and only a few students had successful Lima beans! It was a great opportunity for me to explain to my kiddos that not all experiments are successful😉. Bentley, Gunnar, and Reese are pretty excited to show off their thriving plants!
Let’s Retell The Story
One of my reading groups read a story about the beach this week. Caleb, Kingston, and Donivan retold the story using the key words FIRST, NEXT, THEN, and LAST. They also illustrated the story. These boys did such a great job and had fun learning about the different things you can find at the beach. I think the sand dollar was their favorite😊
Sydney, Isaac, Charlotte and Hailey read a book titled Nana's House. They also sequenced the events in the story using the key words FIRST, NEXT, THEN, and LAST.

Shave and Spell
This only happens a couple of time a year but it’s always a favorite!!! Today my first graders spelled their spelling and sight words in shaving cream. Yes, it makes a mess but I can’t think of a more exciting way to study our words.
Pumpkin Time
It’s that time of year and Halloween is right around the corner. So this week, first grade will be learning all things PUMPKIN!!! We started off the week with a parts of a pumpkin craft and using our 5 senses to describe a pumpkin. We also had a yummy pumpkin snack today. There are more fun things in store for the rest of the week. Stay tuned......

Sing It Loud!!!!
We are so excited about learning the parts of the flower that we are singing it loud for all to hear!!!!
Toy Reports
Wow, my first graders have been busy writing reports about their favorite toys. Each student brought their favorite toy to school last week and we took pictures of it, made a word web full of adjectives to describe the toy using the Popplet App on the iPads, wrote a report about the toy, and finally made a video using Adobe Spark. Check out the links below to watch each students' video.

3. What do all plant life cycles start with?
4. Is a pumpkin a fruit or vegetable?

Happy Fire Safety Month
What a fun day at Erie Elementary. To celebrate Fire Prevention month, the Erie firefighters came to visit today! They talked to grades Pre-K though 4th grade and discussed important fire safety rules and the procedures to follow in case of an emergency. This week in the classroom, we have also been learning abut fire safety. Students listened to a cute 911 rap song, completed a I SHOULD vs. I SHOULDN'T fire safety sort, complied a list of adjectives to describe a fire fighter, went on a fire safety word hunt, and made their very own fire helmet.
