My Mouth Is A Volcano!

This afternoon we read the book titled My Mouth Is Like A Volcano! It is a cute little story about learning to not INT”ERUPT” someone when they are speaking. The class brainstormed good choices to make when they feel like they might “erupt” and created a volcano craft. We also conducted a science experiment to discover what happens when vinegar and baking soda are mixed together. We had mini volcanos erupting all over the classroom!!! It was super fun and the kids loved it!

Sight Word Centers

On Friday morning,we started things off with sight word centers to help us review our kindergarten sight words. Students enjoyed rotating through a variety of centers like word towers, letter match up, crayon rubbing, word scramble, and word tic-tax-toe!

If these self created emojis do not brighten your day, I don’t know what to will. I’m really enjoying getting to know my students this week! Check out their about me t-shirts displayed in the hallway.

First Day!!!

What a fantastic first day back! I have to say in my 14 years of teaching, this has been one of the best first days. What a polite and friendly group of students! We started the day off with a read aloud about first day jitters and made a special jitter juice to help make those little butterflies in our tummies disappear😊 Students also illustrated and wrote about their feelings this morning. We practiced using our “marshmallow toes” in the hallway as we toured the school, ate a yummy snack, and took a couple brain breaks with GoNoodle! The day flew by and I can’t wait for another awesome day in first grade tomorrow!

Welcome Back!!!

It's that time again!  I hope everyone had a wonderful summer break and is ready for a great year in first grade=) Thank you to all of the families who attended Unpack your Backpack on Tuesday night.  You may have noticed that Erie Elementary looks like it is under construction.  This is our new school theme for the year!  Let's help "BUILD" each other up and follow the "ROAD" to success!
