Tasty, Buttery, Delicious, Yummy....... POPCORN!

We kicked off the week with a grammar lesson on Adjectives and a little snack.  Students did a little taste testing and then brainstormed adjectives to describe the popcorn they were eating.  Who said learning couldn't be delicious=) I can't wait to continue learning about adjectives this week.  Stay tuned.....

PENGUINS

My students read a non-fiction book about penguins this week.  They also used their iPads to scan QR codes to learn facts about these cute and interesting birds.  They recorded the facts and then used them to write penguin reports.  As a class, we also created an ARE-CAN-HAVE chart about penguins.

Kaycee uses her iPad to scan a QR code
that will take her to a website full of penguin facts.

Mrs. Bebon brought in some little friends to visit today.

Caylee and Hunter show off their penguin reports.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

To end our science unit on weather, we read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.  As a class, we brainstormed  other types of food that we would like it to rain. My students illustrated a photograph of the elementary playground and wrote about what they would do if it rained pizza, apples, candy, ice cream, etc.  They are so creative and doing such a fantastic job with their writing this year.  Check out some of these writing samples.

Hugs and Kisses

To spread the love in first grade, we read The Day It Rained Hearts.  Everyone colored their very own umbrella and then each student filled out hearts with kinds words about 4 of their classmates.  It was so rewarding and warmed my heart to see my students smile as they read the compliments that their peers wrote about them.

We also played pin the lips on Mrs. Holland on Valentines Day.  It was so hilarious to see my face with big pink lips all over it.  My kiddos had a great time!

Shadow or No Shadow?????

Well, it looks like another 6 weeks of winter according to Punxsutawney Phil.  I think our wishful thinking that spring was right around the corner influenced our predictions.  LOL  Happy Ground Hogs Day!  My first graders made their shadow predications and did a fun little step by step groundhog drawing.  I think they turned out soooo cute.
