Learning with iPads

Today in math students used the whiteboard app to write their addition number sentences.  They did a great job showing their work and finding the sum of each problem.  I had lots of volunteers!!!!  Way to go first grade =)

Living or Nonliving.... that is the question???

Today we started a new chapter in science.  Our first lesson was all about living and nonliving things. We learned a song to the tune of twinkle twinkle little star that taught us that living things grow and change.  We also discussed that living things need air, water, food, and shelter.  To end the lesson, students colored pictures and sorted them into living and nonliving categories.
We also went exploring outside to see if we could find living and nonliving things to add to our charts.

Compare and Contrast

Mrs. Green from the Black Lagoon sure gave us a scare the other day.  After listening to the story The Teacher from the Black Lagoon, I think my first graders are happy that I am there teacher=)  As a class, we created a character web about Mrs. Green and also discussed similarities and differences between Mrs. Green and myself.  I am very thankful that my students recognized that Mrs. Green is a much different teacher than I am. We sure don't want her coming to visit anytime soon!!!!! lol

Can You Guess How Many?????

To go along with our Lego team themed door, I set out a little guessing game on Backpack Night.  Students had to try and guess how many legos were in the jar.  Our BIG winner was Evan!  He guessed that there were 200 legos in the jar which was the closest.  The actual number of legos in the jar was 228.  Way to go Evan!

Classroom Rules

Today we read David Goes To School by David Shannon.  My kiddos love this odd looking little character but also realize that David makes a lot of poor choices throughout the story.   After finishing the book, students sorted good and bad behaviors to help David make better choices.  This activity is a great visual to remind students about school rules and how to behave in the classroom.  We also made a fun David craft including speech bubbles telling us what rules we should follow at school.

Everything is AWESOME..... when you are part of a TEAM!!!!!

If you haven't heard....... Our school wide motto this year is "Winning as a Team".  Mrs. Livengood challenged all teachers and students to come up with a fun "TEAM" idea to decorate our classroom doors.  It's just a friendly competition because we are all winners at ERIE ELEMENTARY!  Check out our door. Emmett from the LEGO movie reminds us that it is important to work together as a team.  Students colored there very own lego figure to help decorate the door and build our class team.

First Day With My Kiddos!

It was a great first day! I have the sweetest little first graders this year! Boy, we had a busy day. Students made first day crowns, we learned about using our marshmallow toes in the hallway, got to know one another while playing "find a friend", and most importantly made magic jitter juice to get rid of all those nerves we might of had about starting first grade! I think it worked because as the dismissal bell rang this afternoon I received lots high fives and bright smiles. I am one happy teacher!
