Thank You!

A big thank you to Amanda Davisson for donating $ to our class so I could purchase a scholastic book for each student this month. If anyone is interested in sponsoring our class next month, please let me know. It’s only $1 per student. The kids get so excited when the big scholastic book box arrives in the mail. 

I would also like to thank the parents that purchased a book from the book fair and donated to our classroom library. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Creepy Carrots

This is such a fun book. I sure hope these creepy carrots don’t try and scare my first graders because they have some pretty good ideas on how to stop them.

Plants

This week in science we have been learning about plant needs, the parts of a plant, and a plant life cycle. It has been a busy week with lots of crafts. My students did a great job following directions and had a fun time tie-dying coffee filters for their flowers. We also created our own pumpkin patch in the hallway with our pumpkin lifecycle crafts.

Fire Safety Week

It is fire safety week at Erie Elementary. My students were excited to see the firefighters this morning as we learned about what to do if there is a fire in our house. In the classroom, we read books about firefighters and learned a really fun song about calling 911. Students also brainstormed adjectives to describe firefighters, completed a “should” and “shouldn’t” sort, and did a write the room activity.

Double Time!!!!

We are busy learning our double facts in math! Practice, practice, practice!!! Students made Double Dudes, double bracelets, lady bugs with their favorite doubles fact, and we learned an awesome rap song! Check out the link below.

In science we have been learning about the butterfly and frog life cycles. We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and even wrapped Natalie up like a chrysalis. Students used key words like first, next, then, and last to sequence the life cycles.

Congratulations to all of my super readers for the month of September. They all received a reading certificate, challenge sticker, and a special treat for all of their hard work!

Sentence Buddies

Do you know how to write a sentence? WE DO!!!! Students made sentence buddies and learned a fun song to help them remember to put a capital letter in the beginning and punctuation at the end of the sentences that we write!

Adjectives

We are continuing to focus on adjectives in grammar. My students are learning about adding details to a sentences by using adjectives to describe a noun. Last we we colored lollipops and brainstormed adjectives to describe what our 🍭 looked like and how they tasted. Students also used adjectives to describe themselves and made an "About Me" craft. 

Short U

In spelling and phonics we are learning about the short u vowel. We made donuts and added sprinkles with our spelling words! I read If You Give A Dog A Donut to go along with our craft. 

My students also had a great time going on a short u word hunt as they read Gus Takes The Train. Who doesn’t LOVE ❤️ post-its!!!!!
